About this page

Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War (태극기 휘날리며) is a 2004 Korean War film directed by Kang Je-gyu and distributed by Showbox. Jang Dong-gun and Won Bin play two brothers drawn into the war in June 1950. It was the second Korean film to pass 10 million admissions.

Its set in Hapcheon is confirmed. Hapcheon County says it built the Hapcheon Film Theme Park on the film’s location after the film’s success. VisitKorea and the Korean Film Commissions directory also identify the park with the film.

Hapcheon Film Theme Park

Today the park is a large open set of Korean streets from the 1920s to the 1980s. The county says more than 200 films, dramas, ads and music videos have been shot there. Hapcheon County also lists Steel Rain (2017), a film about a crisis between the two Koreas, and the park’s own site says its replica of the Blue House was used. That link is reported, from one source.

Fans also match scenes from Made in Korea Season 2 to the park; see our Made in Korea guide.

For other Korean War and DMZ films, and what was real and what was a set, see our DMZ in Korean film hub.

Getting there

We have not verified a route against an official page. Check Kakao Map or Naver Map for express buses to Hapcheon, then the local route to the park. A taxi from Hapcheon town is the simple fallback.
