About this page
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is SBS’s 2016 time-slip romance: Hae Soo (IU) falls into Goryeo and meets the princes, above all Wang So (Lee Joon-gi). It remains one of the most rewatched sageuks internationally, but its filming places are documented unevenly — one tourism-organization scene credit and one tourism-organization drama credit plus blogs. This guide keeps those grades visible instead of smoothing them over.
Buyeo: Baekje park
Baekje Cultural Land is the guide’s anchor: a huge Baekje-era palace park in Buyeo, and the only stop where a source names the exact episode, scene and building — the episode 11 rain scene at Cheonjeongjeon Hall. It is still labeled reported, because only one qualifying source was found. Allow at least half a day: the park is large, and Buyeo has no train station, so buses set the schedule.
Danyang: open set
Ondal Tourist Park is an open film set in Danyang. Korea Tourism Organization’s VisitKorea guide names Moon Lovers (‘Bobo Gyeongsim Ryeo’) among the dramas filmed at this set, so the stop is reported; the episode 1 bath-scene detail still rests on the KKday blog alone and stays attributed to it.
Getting there
Neither place has a subway station. Buyeo is reached by intercity bus from Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal (travel guides report about 2 hours). For Ondal Tourist Park in Danyang, no transit route was verified — check local bus or taxi options on arrival, and recheck every site’s hours before you go.
Visiting notes
Moon Lovers ran for 20 episodes on SBS, airing on Mondays and Tuesdays from August 29 to Nov 1, 2016. Directed by Kim Kyu-tae, it adapts Tong Hua’s Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin: a modern woman falls into the Goryeo court, which is why a Baekje palace park and a later open set sit side by side in one guide — the places were chosen for how they look on screen, not because they share one period.
Treat Baekje Cultural Land as the fullest day of the two. VisitKorea calls it Korea’s largest history-themed park, built to share Baekje culture: Sabigung Palace reconstructs a Three Kingdoms royal palace, and Neungsa Temple was recreated at real size from excavation research at its historic site in Buyeo. Ondal Tourist Park is the smaller second stop: an open set with costume and prop experiences, best visited as a stop on a Danyang day rather than a destination in itself.
What else is at each stop
At Baekje Cultural Land, Cheonjeongjeon Hall is one part of a reconstruction. VisitKorea describes Sabigung Palace as a reconstruction of a Three Kingdoms royal palace, and Neungsa Temple as recreated at real size from excavation research in Buyeo. Inside Daetongmun Gate stands the Five-story Stone Pagoda, Wiryeseong Fortress shows the earlier Hanseong period, and Jehyangnu Pavilion gives a panorama. The Baekje History and Culture Museum inside the park explains Baekje history through graphics, media and miniatures rather than original artifacts. VisitKorea calls Baekje Cultural Land the largest history-themed park in Korea.
Ondal Tourist Park is broader than its film set. VisitKorea lists the Ondal Exhibition Hall, the open film set, Ondalsanseong Fortress and Ondaldonggul Cave, themed on General Ondal and Princess Pyeonggang. VisitKorea adds that Ondal Tourist Area was the site of a sixth-century Goguryeo–Silla battle over the Hangang River, and that many Korean historical shows have been filmed in the Ondal Open Film Set. The set is a reminder that an open set is built for the camera, not preserved as an original building.
How we checked
Each stop was checked against the site’s bar: confirmed needs two independent official or press sources, and anything weaker is reported with its source named. Baekje Cultural Land has one tourism-organization source naming the exact scene; Ondal Tourist Park has a tourism-organization source naming the drama plus blogs for the scene detail. A second qualifying source was sought for Baekje on Nov 3, 2026 in Korean and English and not found. Buyongdae Cliff left this guide on Nov 3, 2026 (see leftOut): no fan post names it for this drama, so it cannot meet the fan-spotted schema. Dropped candidates (Pocheon Art Valley, Daereungwon) were considered and set aside for lack of a qualifying source. Page checked Nov 3, 2026; both stops carry that date.
