Kian84’s guesthouse at sea

In Kian’s Bizarre B&B, Kian84 designs a guesthouse and then has to run it. For Season 1 he ran it with Jin and Ji Ye-eun on Ulleungdo, an island in the East Sea. The places below are the public ones that VisitKorea and Gyeongsangbuk-do name; the show itself is on Netflix.

What’s real and what was built for the show

The guesthouse was built for filming. The main house sat on a barge in Hyeonpo Port, and the show added a forest annex reached by a monorail, according to VisitKorea and Sports Kyunghyang. Neither is open to visitors, so this guide lists the harbor, not the building. Guests on the show are private people and are not named here.

North and west coast

Hyeonpo Port is where the floating guesthouse was moored. The Taeha Hyangmok Monorail and Hakpo Port are further along the west coast.

East coast

Jeodong Port is a fishing harbor on the east coast, and Jeodong Coffee in the same neighborhood appears in the last episode of Season 1. Jukdo is a small island offshore.

Season 2: Daegwallyeong

Season 2 moved to the mountains of Daegwallyeong in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon State, in midwinter. The producers did not give the guesthouse’s address, and no public filming place has been named yet, so there are no Season 2 places on this site for now. Pyeongchang already appears in our Winter Sonata guide (Yongpyong Resort) and on the Gangwon region page.

Getting to Ulleungdo

There is no bridge to Ulleungdo. Ferries leave from Pohang, Hupo (Uljin), Gangneung and Mukho (Donghae), according to VisitKorea. Ferries are often canceled in wind and high seas, so leave a spare day in your plans. Check current sailings on Ulleung County’s ferry information site (ferry.ulleung.go.kr) or with the operators listed there; this guide does not list times or fares.

On the island, plan each leg with Kakao Map or Naver Map.
