MORE DETAIL

A ferry ride from the Korean Wave

Autumn in My Heart (KBS2, 2000) is a melodrama about two people raised as siblings. Korea.net counts it among Korea’s drama masterpieces, and its adult episodes were filmed in Abai Village, a Sokcho neighborhood founded by refugees from the North after the Korean War.

Abai Village and the gaetbae

You reach the village on the gaetbae, a small flat ferry that passengers pull across the channel by rope. A crossing on this ferry is one of the drama’s best-remembered scenes. The village itself is lived-in, so the shop used as the heroine’s house is not pinned here.

Around the lake and the beach

Cheongchoho Lake lies right next to the village, and Sokcho Beach is also in Sokcho. Korea.net names both as places where key scenes were filmed.

Getting there

From Seoul, Sokcho is reached by intercity or express bus; check current schedules on Naver Map (English UI) or the bus operators’ sites. In Sokcho, plan each leg with Kakao Map or Naver Map.
