1 Day in Gangwon: East Coast K-Drama Day Trip
For travelers who want the sea on a day out of Seoul. Three confirmed places on the Gangwon State coast: Goblin's breakwater at Jumunjin in Gangneung, then two Winter Sonata places in Donghae, where trains run back to Seoul.
Best season: The coast works all year. Beach conditions change with the season, so check local notices; Chuam is known for sunrise views.

Day trip · Gangneung and Donghae
Start at Gangneung Station and take local transit north to Jumunjin (check the Gangneung bus app or Naver Map). Then head south to Donghae (check Korail or Naver Map) for Bukpyeong Catholic Church and Chuam Beach, and take the train back to Seoul from Donghae.
Morning
- Jumunjin Breakwater: Open all day, all year, per VisitKorea. Surfaces can be slippery in wind and rain.
Afternoon
- Bukpyeong Catholic Church: A working parish church: check Mass times before you go and visit outside services.
- Chuam Beach and Candlestick Rock: Beach: conditions depend on the season. Check before you go.
By car
A rental car is an alternative to linking trains and local buses between Jumunjin and Donghae. Drive times change with traffic, so check Naver Map or Kakao Map on the day. In winter, check road and weather notices for snow and ice before you set out.
Check transport on Naver Map (English UI) or Korail before you go. Each place links to its full guide and sources.
